  • Contract: Consultancy

  • Location: Remote

The Role

We are looking for a consultant to design a logo and brand guidelines for our knowledge center for digital rights defenders, which will contain a variety of resources and information focused on different aspects of digital rights. We are looking for a person that has amazing design skills, and is passionate about helping the digital rights community! We want to work with an individual with an innovative sense of aesthetics, who pushes the boundaries of visual culture, and is experimental in approach. The designer will be responsible for crafting the brand, look and feel of the center.

Expected deliverables:

  • Design an identity for a new virtual knowledge center

  • Create visual identities (logos, colors, fonts)

What we need (required qualifications):

  • Experience in graphic design, preferably working with nonprofits, grassroots organizations, open source communities, and international communities.

  • Strong portfolio of conceptual work that demonstrates deep expertise in developing strong brands.

  • Effectively communicate conceptual ideas and design rationale.

  • Able to work independently, prioritize accordingly, and iterate quickly.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Expertise in design software like Photoshop and Illustrator

What we would like (preferred qualifications):

  • You have an appreciation for the role that freedom of expression, human rights, or digital rights plays in our daily lives.

  • Experience working with multilingual and multicultural communities, especially activists, human rights defenders, or frontline communities.

  • Strong plus if you are familiar with wikis.

  • A degree in Design, Interactive Design, Visual Studies, or other design-related field is certainly an advantage but not critical.

To apply:

We are not looking for a long cover letter. Send us a short description of your background, approach to design, and expected rate. Include samples or links to your work that you are most proud/excited about. Send your materials to ops@digitalrights.community with the subject line “Brand Designer Consultant”.

We will be picking 3 designers to complete a paid design assignment and from this pool, we will select the designer that will produce the brand guidelines book for us.

Timeline:

  • Deadline for submission: November 22, 2021

  • Start date of contract: January 2022
